CST updated the Minister on the trends of antisemitism and how it specifically manifests within Sports. Maccabi explained their work across the country as the Jewish community’s primary provider of Sports, Health & Wellbeing activities

There was particular emphasis on joint CST-Maccabi projects including Streetwise which works within the Jewish community to enhance personal wellbeing and development of school age children and Stand up! which is an anti-discrimination interfaith project educating across the country on recognising and reporting all forms of hate crime

The Minister was excited by the prospect of the European Maccabi Games coming to UK in 2024 and Maccabi GB invited him to attend.

“All sports participants should be free to enjoy this sector free of hate and discrimination, so it was important to brief the Sports and Equalities Minister alongside MaccabiGB and the JLC on Antisemitism in sport and CST efforts to combat and educate in this space”.

Jonny Newton, Head of External Affairs CST

“We are thankful to the Minister for taking the time to meet with us and to hear about the important matters of interest at Maccabi GB, including our work to eliminate antisemitism in sport, our educational programmes and of course the exciting European Maccabi Youth Games taking place in London next summer.”

Ashley Lerner, CEO Maccabi GB

“Facilitating important dialogues between government and communal organisations is central to the work of the JLC. The Minister’s feedback on the value of both organisations is a credit to the whole community and we are grateful for the governments continued recognition of the value of Jewish communal organisations”.
