JLC Shares Expertise in UK Covid-19 Inquiry Roundtable

On Thursday, 20th February, our Director of Public Affairs Russell Langer, represented the Jewish community at a roundtable discussion with representatives from various faiths as part of Module 10 of the official UK Covid-19 Inquiry. In preparation for this discussion, the JLC met with Rabbis and staff from across the spectrum of Jewish life in Britain.

The effects of Covid-19 on our community were profound. Synagogues were forced to close, funerals were held with limited attendees, mourning rituals were disrupted, and many lifecycle events, such as weddings and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, were postponed. Despite these challenges, the best of our community shone through. Numerous synagogues and communal groups took action to ensure that no one felt alone, organising deliveries for those unable to leave their homes.

This chapter of our history was one of profound challenges but also of resilience, adaptation, and unity.
