Follow the Leader: Unconscious Bias

This workshop has been designed to support participants to reflect on the unconscious biases that we all hold and the assumptions we sometimes make. It explores how these may impact upon our interactions and decision-making processes, and strategies for recognising and counteracting bias in the workplace.

  • To become aware of your own unconscious bias and some of the unconscious biases of others.

  • By the end of the workshop, delegates will gain an understanding of:

    • Unconscious bias in the workplace - what it is and why it matters

    • Understanding bias – what is the difference between bias, prejudice and stereotyping? Why do we do it and can it be avoided?

    • Types of bias - how unconscious bias works, including implicit association, the origins and application of schemas, affinity bias, confirmation bias and the halo effect

    • Where they come from and how they might affect your interactions with others

    • How to mitigate natural bias
