Baroness Hodge spent twenty years in local government, thirty years as a Member of Parliament and now sits as a member of the House of Lords. Born in Egypt, she was Leader of Islington Borough Council before she was elected as MP for Barking in 1994. Baroness Hodge held a number of ministerial roles in Tony Blair’s and Gordon Brown’s governments, and she successfully held her seat against the far-right in the 2010 general election.
As Chair of the House of Commons’ Public Accounts Committee from 2010 to 2015, gained a high profile as a backbencher, holding officials to account for their spending. Baroness Hodge was instrumental in the fight against antisemitism in the Labour Party, and was awarded a peerage in recognition of her years of service after standing down as an MP in 2024.
She is a member of a book club, an enthusiastic gardener, and in her spare time loves cooking for her family and friends.
